TV
and endless snack times can really put a damper on your kids' health.
One day you have a slender toddler running around and the next thing
you know, you have a tub of lard on the couch. You need to get your
kid's up and exercising.
One way I have discovered to keep kids interested in fitness is the use
of a pedometer. A pedometer is a device that tracks the amount of steps
you take. If your kid can count, they can use this handy device.
A benchmark of 10,000 steps a day for a healthy lifestyle has been
established. Here are a few techniques you can use to help you and your
kid to hit that number:
As
a soon-to-be-dad you will be confronted with some terms that are
confusing, strange, and downright-alien. Never fear! Like Frank and
Buster of the Koala Brothers, "We're here to help!" I am proud to
present the fourth installment of the Predad Dictionary. For this
installment, we will concentrate on names of medical staff that you
will come across. These people will be prodding your wife and looking
into their holiest of holy places, make sure you know they are legit. Read the rest of this entry »
Kids developing language skills for my money is better than
Dane Cook in my living room.I find
their trials and tribulations in language development both fascinating and
hilarious. For example, my 3 year old
daughter told me today that her little brother got pulverized.I have no idea where she heard this word. She
was not using it correctly, but that did not stop her from telling everyone she
knew.
When they say something funny, my natural urge is to repeat
it. I also really want them to say it wrong again because I think it’s awesome. For example: my 1 year old son calls his
grandfather “Gampy”.When he says it in
the high-pitch voice of his, it is gangbusters. Inevitably, I find myself saying “Hey little guy, where’s Gampy?”
Going
to zoos can be a great day trip for you and your family. Most kids
really enjoy looking at all the animals and you get a chance to spend
the day with the family. I am still currently on vacation in the San
Francisco Bay Area and in the last couple of weeks, I have gone with my
family to 3 zoos, and an aquarium.
In order to maximize your zoo experience, I have compiled a short list
of considerations. Knowing these could turn a so-so experience at the
zoo into a memorable experience. Read the rest of this entry »
One
of the most dreaded places for parents, while on vacation, is the gift
shop. There's nothing like paying an arm and a leg to go through an
attraction, only to be forced to donate an organ and a gallon of blood
at the gift shop. There should be no question that paying admission
prices are usually worth the entertainment and educational value of the
attraction. But, unfortunately, standard gift shop fare tends to be the
same type of useless crap with a logo pasted on it.
To your kid, there's nothing better than a stuffed animal inside a
furry purse with a zoo logo on it. You know it's not worth the price,
but that doesn't solve the issue of convincing your kids. What is the
attraction? Are they dehydrated and brightly colored plastic is their
oasis? Or is it just the appeal of a toy-like object? Whatever the
reason, you need to know how to deal with it. Here are a few tips: Read the rest of this entry »
