A couple of months ago, I wrote an article entitled, “What Not to Tell Your Co-Workers About Your Pregnant Wife”. In the article I reasoned, “Sometimes, when we are at work, we feel compelled to tell stories and share items of information about the pregnancy that we probably should not share. There are some things that
should be between you and her.”
That was sound advice. But while the first bath of advice covered more
general topics like morning sickness, pregnancy side effects, and
naming disagreements, this installment will deal with more specific
points of wisdom. The following is a handy guide to help you determine
what is acceptable and what isn’t acceptable when talking about the
final days of pregnancy to your co-workers. Read the rest of this entry »

Question 6: Chick, How do you
feel about the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue ? I get Sports
Illustrated and my wife says I shouldn’t leave it outfor the kid to
see. Mind you, my kid is 10 months old and he can’t evenpick himself up to see the coffee table! I say that it promotes athleticism and beauty. My wife says it objectifies women and has no place in a sports magazine. What are your thoughts?

Get off that computer and go outside! You are limited to 30 minutes of video games per day. Those games are too violent. As a kid, I heard all of this and many of you are saying the same things to your kids. You are concerned by the amount of time they are spending with a controller in their hand or sitting at a computer terminal questing for XP, blowing away aliens, building, deploying and destroying armies and socializing with their friends. I got robbed in broad daylight last week. The assailant came out of nowhere and in the end, I was out $200. I should have seen it coming. I should have taken more precautions. After all, I am not a kid. I have been around the block a few times. I have been mugged before. My apartment has been robbed. But I let my guard down and I got nailed. The worst part is they went after my daughter first. I say "they" because there were many people involved but I really should be saying "he" because they all answer to one person. That man is Walt Disney. And even with his head frozen in a chamber in California, he was able to pick my pocket for 2 C notes.
The event was Disney's Princesses on Ice. The location of the crime was the TD Banknorth Garden, formerly the Fleet Center, formerly the Boston Garden or "the Gahhdin". Again, I should have seen it coming. Everything associated with Disney Princesses carries a huge premium. But nothing could prepare me for the onslaught of pressure, guilt, and competition that came over me. More on the guilt later. Here is a breakdown of what we purchased during the event: Read the rest of this entry »

Dear Chick,
My wife gave birth to our son 10 months ago. We have not had sex since she was 5 months pregnant. That was over a year ago. She says she isn’t ready yet but when does it cross the line from “giving her enough time” to downright neglect of my needs?
Going out to eat can be crazy stressful. But besides the need to entertain the kids, keep them eating healthy, keeping the floors relatively clean, and escaping without breaking the bank, there is something else to worry about. It's what I like to call, "Over-Grazing": the temptation to finish off your kid's unfinished meal.
The temptation is real. And the ramifications are severe. Depending on the level of "ooh la la" the restaurant is, your kid's meal could cost you over half the amount of a full adult meal. So when you are shelling out 5-8 bucks for a chicken finger platter, of course you are going to polish off the last finger as you walk out the door. Which brings us to the ramification factor. Indulging in a chicken finger one day, and a couple of french fries the next will do wonders for your cholesterol and your blood pressure.
It’s the heart of winter here in New England and don’t look now, but here comes another one. Not a nasty snowstorm, but a week-long school vacation for the kids. There are two ways parents view this week.
For some families, it’s just what the doctor ordered: a chance to take a break from our crazy, hectic day-to-day schedules and to spend time with the kids. Perhaps you stay around the house playing board games and doing crafts. Maybe you take day trips to museums or visit your local movie theater to see a new flick. If you’re really lucky and have the vacation time and extra scratch to swing it, maybe you jet off to warmer climes to trade snow and slush for surf and sand.
Are adoptive parents better parents than biological ones? According to a new study published in the American Sociological Review, when it comes to time and money investment, the answer is yes.
Examining data from over 13,000 households, researchers found that the 161 families whom were headed by 2 adoptive parents, rated higher than the biological parents amongst a whole slew of criteria: "including helping with homework, parental involvement in school, exposure to cultural activities and family attendance at religious services." Dear Chick,
Is it true that women make friends with other women uglier than they are so that their mediocre looks is magnified to gorgeous status bycomparison? My wife claims that isn’t true but my buddies and I areconvinced this is true. Thoughts?
