Even I, the one beer wonderkid, has been known to enjoy a brew with my pizza. Beer and pizza, they just go together. But nothing could prepare me for this: Pizza Beer. That’s right, “ale brewed with oregano, basil, tomato, and garlic.” What do you think noodads? You can buy some here.

It’s that time of year again. This past Memorial Day weekend officially kicks off the summer barbecue season. But a passion for eating grilled meats is not enough to get you through the season with your family. There are a few things you should know when preparing for a summer barbecue.
Background Prep
Frequently, the host is a friend of only you or your wife, not the both of you. So it is important that you get prepped on the background of the home owner. You don’t want to walk into the situation unprepared. Likewise, if you are the one that knows the host, prep your wife. Items to discuss beforehand: how many kids, what do they do for work, who are they friends with, etc. It never hurts to prepare. For instance, you don’t want to start railing on the local gas station only to find out that the host is the owner of it. Read the rest of this entry »

That is what a German couple “tried to do” when their son got too loud.
“Peter Hieber, a spokesman for police in the Bavarian town of Krumbach, said the baby was placed in the care of youth services in the southwestern Allgaeu region, although the child’s 23-year-old mother insisted that the ad was only a joke.”
Of course it was, however the only ones who thought it was funny were the baby’s parents as they are now in custody and the kid is in child services.

Come on people. It’s one thing to think about something, it’s another to follow through. Once the name is released, we are revoking his noodad membership.

Remember balsa wood airplanes? They were flimsy but tons of fun if you could get them built without breaking them! My brother and I used to buy these at a penny candy store at the beach where we spent our Summers and fly them on the beach (softer landing zone!) in the early evening. They were like a $1.99 back then and they’re not much more now. The ones I grew up flying - made by Gillow’s are still made in Wakefield, Mass and are exactly the same as the ones you played with. I found the one pictured here at a local toy store by the register.
With Summer just around the corner and the promise of more daylight playtime in the backyard before and after dinner, consider picking up a few…dozen. That way, you don’t need to share with the kiddies (they’re hard to put down)!

I hated math growing up. It was, hands down my least favorite subject. Why, because despite attending well regarded schools, no-one ever made math fun by making it relevant to what interested me - like sports.
It was always memorization of tables…and complex operations such as algebra, stats and trig were self-serving exercises. The closest I ever came to actually enjoying math was in geometry but that was probably more a function of the fact that you could draw and play games on a TI-81 graphing calculator. That and this girl I had a huge crush on sat next to me.
I wish that someone had made math interesting because I sure as as shit needed math once I got out into the workforce and I wish I’d retained more growing up.
It seems to me (and I wish it had dawned on my folks 20 years ago) that an easy way to make math interesting is by connecting it to sports.

The clock’s ticking, so let’s get right to it. Regardless of how cool an item you purchase for your wife, if signing the credit card slip at the mall or clicking the mouse on your computer represents your complete involvement in the Mother’s Day gift, you haven’t done enough. Oh, it might work the first year or two, but quickly you’ll learn that, at least for Mother’s Day: More Thought + More Effort = Better Gift.
It’s all about the kids. Make sure you add a kid angle to whatever you give your wife. Let’s take some of the items from Reviewdad’s gift list to see how this works. For the lunch tote, have your kids write a bunch of different messages on colored papers. Put them aside and slip one into the tote every once in a while when mom’s not looking. Think about how finding a simple note with the word “smile” written in your kid’s scrawl could turn her day around. For the yoga mat, if your kids are old enough, check out a book or video from the library and teach the kids some yoga poses so they can lead mom in an impromptu Mother’s Day yoga class.

There is a new study that shows that kids who are breastfed are shown to be smarter than those not breastfed. According to this article on Boston.com:
“The children in the group where breast-feeding was encouraged scored about 5 percent higher in IQ tests and did better academically, the researchers found. Previous studies had indicated brain development and intelligence benefits for breast-fed children. But researchers have sought to determine whether it was the breast-feeding that did it, or that mothers who prefer to breast-feed their babies may differ from those who do not.”
What the article fails to state though is kids who are breastfed are lucky X 2. Not only could they grow up to be smarter, they get to suck on breasts every day. Ahh, to be a kid again…
