Everything A Guy Needs to Know About Dilation

Posted on 01 31, 2009 under Predad by gregoryng | View Comments

jedi1There are many things in this world that men naturally do not grasp right away. How to spend more than 5 minutes getting ready in the morning is one. The difference between a duvet cover and a bedspread. The appeal of Matthew McConaughey . But one of the hardest concepts to grasp for a predad is the idea of “dilation”.You will hear the word dilation (along with the word’s variations: dilating, dilated, etc) many times over the course of a pregnancy. The definition of dilation, as it is described in our very own Predad Dictionary , is:

PSA: Peanut Butter Product Recall Growing

Posted on 01 23, 2009 under Newsflashes by reviewdad | View Comments

By now you’ve probably heard about the peanut butter recall due to a salmonella outbreak.  Initially believed to be confined to a single productstamaty_peanut-spot2 and affecting only a few states,  now, like Skippy creamy on a piece of warm toast, it’s been spreading easily.   According to WebMD, affected products include but are not limited to:

  • General Mills: Lara Bar Peanut Butter Cookie flavor snack bars and Jam Frakas Peanut Butter Blisscrisp flavor snack bars
  • Clif Bar & Company: Clif Bar Chocolate Chip Peanut Crunch, Clif Bar Crunchy Peanut Butter, Clif Bar Peanut Toffee Buzz,  ZBaR Peanut Butter, Clif Builders Peanut Butter, Luna Nutz over Chocolate, Luna Peanut Butter Cookie, and all Clif Mojo Bars
  • Kroger: Private Selection Peanut Butter Passion Ice Cream sold at City Market, Fred Meyer, Fry’s, King Soopers, QFC, and Smith’s stores.
  • Kellogg Company: Certain Austin and Keebler brand peanut butter sandwich crackers, select snack-size packs of Famous Amos Peanut Butter Cookies, and Keebler Soft Batch Homestyle Peanut Butter Cookies

All companies got their peanut butter from Peanut Corporation of America.  Now that’s just not very patriotic PCA!  Come on…it’s a new eara of National unity…or have you not hear?!  Anyhow, for a full/latest list, visit the FDA site.  Unfortunately, the list is being updated regularly. BAD PEANUT!

How do you discipline other people’s kids?

Posted on 01 12, 2009 under Master Debaters by Paul Simpson | View Comments

disciplining_kidsSome friends of mine—we’ll call them Mike and Carol—hosted a couple of their son’s friends for a birthday sleepover a couple of weeks ago.  The night included a trip to the movies and other fun and shenanigans.  Before they left for the theater one of the boys—we’ll call him Oliver—kept acting up and saying some mean things to one of the other kids; so Carol pulled the kid aside and gave him a “we don’t act that way in this house and I’d like you to stop saying those things” speech.  Oliver muttered something and went into the room to join the other kids.  Right away, Carol heard him tell her son, “Your mom is so mean!”  Again she pulls Oliver aside, firmly tells him to stop, and sends him back to the others.  Needless to say, Oliver made some other remark once again.  This time, Mike heard him.

So Mike yells for the kid to come into the kitchen.  Carol stood with her arms folded and wishing she could chew out Oliver.  Mike then says one of the best lines I’ve heard in a long time:  “Oliver, there are two cars leaving here in fifteen minutes!  One’s going to the movies; the other is going to your house!  Which one are you gonna be in?!  Huh?  What’s it gonna be?!”   Oliver got the message, but will unlikely be welcome back to the house again. If you haven’t had that freak-out yet, at some point you will. Trust me. And it sucks!istock_000005307293xsmall460x3051

Day: Son’s 2nd birthday.

Subject: Awesome birthday party Mrs. ReviewDad spent months planning and weeks working on.

Highlights: ChooChoo Train theme. Handmade decorations. Train cake made (and decorated) totally from scratch. 30 friends, family and kids.

Extenuating Circumstances: ONLY person taking pictures that day = ME!!!

Trauma: 11:15 pm, put memory card into computer, ZERO pictures.

WTF: 2GB card is Full! So where the @#%$ are the digital pictures?

The answer is that your missing digital photos are probably there…you just need to know how to get to them when the regular means fail you. And you don’t need Geek Squad or some other professional to get them back. Read the rest of this entry »
