Matt Chumbley is a Hero

Posted on 03 28, 2009 under Current Events by schneidermike | View Comments

When Matt Chumbley’s two and a half year old disappeared down a well while chasing the family cat, he did what any noodad would do. He panicked.

He quickly cleared away debris and wood and accidentally hit his son on the head with a cinderblock. Matt dove in after his son and pulled him out. Watch video about (not of) the event here: http://www.cnn.com/video/#/video/us/2008/03/28/dnt.ia.boy.well.kcci

WIN a Warm As A Lamb Stroller Coat for yourself! See details after the jump.

If your kid looks like the Michelin Man whenever you leave the house, you must live north of the 38th parallel.  Actually, this winter, you could live in Texas. Thanks to El Niño (or is it La Niña?), it doesn’t seem to matter.  Baby, it’s friggin’ cold outside!

For most of us, winter is cold.  For some of us, it’s the kind of winter that saps your soul and drags on forever…but we expect that.  The real rub is that we can’t spend four months on the couch playing PlayStation all toasty warm…especially when you’re a dad.   Eventually, you need to leave your house.  So you cowboy up and deal with it because despite mankind’s thousands of years of invention in the effort to combat the cold, no matter how much Polar Fleece, down, GoreTex or Thinsulate you wrap your ass in, when you’re outside, you’re still OUTSIDE!

Leader in Human Lifelike Simulation

Posted on 03 19, 2009 under Stuff by schneidermike | View Comments

Boston Dynamics is a cool company who calls themselves the “leader in human lifelike simulation”. The Big Dog however is neither human nor a dog. It’s the conjoined Human Fly twins! I am definitely having nightmares tonight. Civilization is doomed.

Is Chanel and Coach Really Worth The Hefty Price Tag?

Posted on 03 12, 2009 under Ask the Chick by TheChick | View Comments

chanel_no5_edpWelcome to another installment of our weekly feature: Ask the Chick.
The chick is Latia Harris, a noodad reader and mom with a lot of
answers for you. Each week, Latia will answer the questions you don’t
have the balls to ask your own wives.

Dear Chick,

My wife and I have been married for 12 years and we have gotten in the habit of just telling each other what we want for our birthdays. Anyways, this year she told me she wants this $800 Coach bag and this $100 bottle of Chanel No. 5 perfume. My question for you, is is this stuff really worth the price because I may have to refinance my house!

Connor’s Quest for Sight

Posted on 03 07, 2009 under Current Events by gregoryng | View Comments

We spend a lot of time around here talking about dad topics in a funny light. But every once in a while we tell people about some serious stuff.

Connor John Corkern is a 15 month old boy from Amite, Louisiana and he was born with two rare conditions, Congenital Panhypopituitarism and Optic Nerve Hypoplasia. This means he is hormone deficient and blind.

The good news is there is a procedure that has been proven to help and even give Connor a chance to see. The bad news is it is performed in China and is not covered by insurance. So Connor’s family are trying to raise $60,000 to send Connor to China to get the procedure and spend a month in China to recover.

Connor is the nephew of a friend of Noodad and his story has touched me greatly. As an artist and designer I know the importance of sight. As a dad I know the feeling of looking at your kid and your kid seeing you back.

2d4a4f04-4069-4869-92e9-d4cb2690e80e.JPGFather daughter dances. The one time a year where you actually have to get dressed up and dance. You may be able to finagle not dancing with your wife but when it comes to your daughter, you are no match. Even if you are a wallflower or have 2 left feet, when that invitation comes for the Father Daughter Dance, you know what you need to do.

Fortunately, I can tell you what you need to know to master the Father Daughter Dance. I am by no means a veteran of these things but I have cut a rug with my daughter twice and from some of my polling, most dances resemble the ones I went to. Here’s what you noodads need to know: Read the rest of this entry »
