Hot Women with Ugly Friends: Fact or Myth?

atclogo_smWelcome to another installment of our weekly feature: Ask the Chick.
The chick is Latia Harris, a noodad reader and mom
with a lot of answers for you. Each week, Latia will answer the
questions you don’t have the balls to ask your own wives.

Dear Chick,
Is it true that women make friends with other women uglier than they are so that their mediocre looks is magnified to gorgeous status bycomparison? My wife claims that isn’t true but my buddies and I areconvinced this is true. Thoughts?

Dear Dude,
Do you want the truth? You can’t handle the truth.

Seriously. The truth of the matter is that this theory cannot be generalized because you have to take into account people’s standard of beauty (or ugly in this matter) and various character traits. As far as beauty goes, some guys are into missing or blackened front teeth, tire bellies, no hair, and too much makeup. So if that particular guy was to see Hillbilly Sue next to Halle Berry, who would be the ugly friend and who would be the attractive friend? I think I just heard your head explode.

Like all things pertaining to women and the story line to ‘LOST’, this is a super complicated topic. Much too complicated to explain in depth, but in simplicity, you and your wife are both right.

Here is how you are right: Your buddies have noticed what I like to call the “Cock Blocker Play”-as in the prettier friend intentionally ‘cock blocks’ hits from the other friends and diverts them to herself thus making her seem more attractive and able to get more free drinks. This is a both physical and physcological tactic because the less attractive friends usually have lower self esteems, making them more willing to be dragged along.

It is mean, it is cruel, but it usually works. And those poor friends of hers don’t have a clue because their self esteem is too low to realize what is going on. Rather than go initiate some tackles, they continue to put up with that crap and hang on the sidelines. Thus, proving your theory that some women pick uglier friends to make themselves look better is true.

However, your theory cannot be generalized and applied to all women-this is where your wife is right. Some of us really don’t care what our friends look like in comparison to us. That’s where I stand.

Now I’m back to watching HEROES.

Good Luck to you,

The Chick
