What Are Some Good Pregnancy Gifts?

670301_giftWelcome to another installment of our weekly feature: Ask the Chick. The chick is Latia Harris, a noodad reader and mom with a lot of answers for you. Each week, Latia will answer the questions you don’t have the balls to ask your own wives.

Chick, What do you think is a good gift to buy my wife to mark the birth of our baby?

Dear Dude,

Jewelry is a great way to mark the birth of your baby. Something extra special, like a personalized bracelet, necklace, or earrings (that comes in a little blue box, wink wink…) would be a great way to commemorate the birth of your baby and let your wife know how much you appreciate her effort and hard work to bring your child into the world.

To score extra brownie points, toss in some maid services, get some gourmet dinners delivered, and look into getting a massage therapist to hook your wife up while she’s at the hospital. Some hospitals even have a massage therapist that goes around the maternity ward.

No matter what you do, just make sure it’s thoughtful and full of love (which I’m sure it will be).

Hope that helps!

Good Luck to you and Congrats on the birth of you new baby,

The Chick

  • Consider the after effect of pregnancy: baby. Then care to give things for the baby instead like strollers, baby toys, etc...
  • Care, love and attention! :)

Actually a pregnancy book and a pair of ear plugs is a better option lol

    Jewelry? Never thought of that...
  • Well i think that Jewelry is a great way to mark the birth of your baby. Something extra special, like a personalized bracelet, necklace, or earrings.
  • Well I would say the most sweet gift would be the room full of toys and teddies....flowers,chocolates...wow that will make her very emotional...
  • Thanks for the really useful tips. As for me I've presented my wife a gift subscription to one of the pregnancy magazines. A friend of mine also advised me to purchase a relaxing home foot bath, he said that it will help to overcome the swelling and soreness associated with pregnancy.
So, the main feature of your gift should be -usefulness.
  • Your regular presence especially when she needs it most (tantrums galore) is a very thoughtful and "personalized" gift. Just don't forget to couple it with red roses.
  • How about a baby stroller?
  • It's a very good idea to create a strong relationship between a husband and a wife. It shows that how caring u are. Even u can go for good quotations/wordings that will encourage your wife during labour pains.
  • Different point of view from that post. Interesting to say the least.
  • I'll go with jewellery & lots of love. This 2 things a woman is crazy about.
  • What are some other good things to get the mommy 2 be other than a gift card? ... I got her a pregnancy book to fill out, kind of like a baby book, ...
  • Every pregnant woman should have at least a good pregnancy book to guide her ... just some pregnancy gifts that expectant mums will be delighted to have. ...
  • pregnancy guidance book is the best idea, better yet, dvd, tapes, and all these guidance media are good.
  • Bella
According to me Jewelry is a great way to mark the birth of our baby like you told. Among that i go for extra special necklace which makes the wife so happy which is one of the greatest gift for them....
    new born gift baskets
  • There are two things you want to remember when giving a gift to a pregnant woman. First, you want to give them something practical that will help out when the baby comes. Second, you want to pamper them. Being pregnant takes a toll on your body, and you should do everything you can to be

supportive. The ten ideas below will address and fall under one of the two above categories.

    1. The number one gift idea has got to be diapers. You just never seem to have enough of them. One thing I would ask you to consider is buying stage 1 or 2 diapers instead of newborn diapers. The babies quickly grow out of the newborn diapers, and by buying bigger stages you can increase the length of time the new parents need to worry about buying more. When I had my first child I didn't need to buy diapers the first 3 months.

    2. Erbaviva Pregnancy Gift Set: This is a perfect gift for any new Mommy-to-Be. The gift set includes the following: Mommy-to-Be Milk Bath (contains organic milk and lavender oils, lemon and sandalwood to keep your tummy dry), Stretch Mark Oil (contains carrot and rose seed to soften the skin), and Back Rub Oil (contains Roman Chamomile to relax your mind as well as your muscles). All the necessities for any pregnancy. Each gift set is wrapped in a natural fiber gift bag. The regular price for this gift basket is $60.00, but you can get it for $48.00 at Comfy Cozy. I should also note Comfy Cozy has a 5 star merchant rating so you can feel safe and secure when ordering.

    3. Motherlove - Pamper Me Pregnancy Gift Box - Gift Set: This gift set is absolutely lovely and captures the special moments of pregnancy and childbirth. It features several of Motherlove's most popular products and a special birthing journal. The gift sets come in four colors: tangerine, red, bronze and gold. 2 1/2 oz. \"Baby Me\" Bath, 2 oz. Birth & Baby Spritzer, 1/2 oz. Birth & Baby Massage Oil, Birthing Journal. This gift set is sold at Lucky Vitamin for $75.53.

    4. Poppy and Mustard Diaper Stacker: To go with the diapers you bought. Every nursery needs storage space for their diapers. Why not store them in style. Poppy Bird and Mustard Dog will conveniently and cutely store away the diapers.

Imported from England from Mamas and Papas in a soft neutral velour. You can find this gift at FirstGift for $30.00.

    5. The cheapest, but probably the best gift you could give a pregnant woman is your time. By this I mean making homemade coupons for free babysitting. You decide how many coupons you are willing to offer, but any will be appreciated. This way the woman can get a much-needed break, and she will know she can call on you if needed (as long as she still has coupons left). This is definitely a gift I wish someone had given me when I had my girls.

    6. Gift for New Mothers Traditional Wisdom of Pregnancy, Birth and Motherhood by Jackson, Deborah. Here is a description of the Book: From the Romanies, who tuck sprigs of rosemary under the pillow to ensure sweet dreams, to the Magar women, who use apricot oil to moisturize their cracked nipples when breastfeeding, this volume collects practical and inspiring advice for new mothers. Covering every stage of motherhood from conception through childhood, this title provides a wealth of surprising information. You can buy this book from Alibris for $12.48

  • You are correct, a therapy makes your lovely wife get her much needed strength after the delivery.
  • Things that are useful to the baby and of course consider safety before anything else. On top of the material gifts, love and great care are priceless gift.
