Disney For Free

Recently the Walt Disney Company launched an advertising campaign to promote the fact that a family of four can take a week long vacation to Disney World for under $1,500.00. While this price doesn’t include airfare it is still cheaper than many people would imagine. Even so, the trip to Disney is a luxury that not everyone can afford. If a vacation to the Magic Kingdom is not in your budget don’t fret. There is a cheaper way to get there if you are lucky – believe in the magic and you can win a major subsidy for next vacation to Disney thanks to the folks at Radio Disney.

If your kids haven’t found it yet they will soon enough.  In an auditory realm assaulted by shock jocks, Radio Disney is a sensitive oasis on the AM dial. It is a radio option that won’t offend impressionable ears. But don’t let the wholesome format be the only selling point to your kids. Radio Disney gives away boatloads of free stuff with prizes almost every hour. A few hours of listening can pay real dividends. The contests are fun and creative. For example, a recent contest gave a kid a new bike. Disney marketers like to overwhelm their winners. Along with his new bike, the winning child received new bikes for every kid in his entire grade. They also they threw in an extreme bike stunt show for the school.

Can you win a trip? You bet. Radio Disney gives away trips continuously. The station gives out prizes all day long through a variety of contests, games, and promotions. While these daily games are good, the real prize you want is featured every few weeks with each new themed sweepstakes. In addition to trips, your kids can win a chance to meet established music artists. If you kids have a favorite youth oriented band, sooner or later that band will be involved in a Radio Disney promotion. Entering is easy now. You used to have to call in to get entered into the sweeps. Getting through to the DJs could be a major test of patience. These days your kids can easily enter contests on the Radio Disney website. Often Radio Disney allows daily entries, so a few minutes each day will enhance your odds.

Although kids from around the country enter the odds of winning a prize from Radio Disney are certainly better than the odds of your local lottery. Most contests command thousands of entries, but not always. Once when I worked at RD an under-promoted contest of a sponsor required the kids to write a very short essay, around 50 words. With two days left on the contest we had collected only two entries and one of them forgot to do the essay. On the final day of the contest we received two more entries. The kid who won had a one in three chance of winning. The prize: a trip for four to Disney World.  Magic can happen.
