Noodad Labs Product Review: The Kaboost

kaboost_kids_sMy son is a little over 2 1/2 years old. But he wants to act like a 5 year old. This is because his older sister is 5 and well, he just relates to her more than his 7 month old younger brother. This greatly accelerates his willingness to do things for himself and most of the time that is good.

But when it comes to sitting at the dinner table, it is become quite a headache. See, he knows he isn’t a baby like his younger brother so he doesn’t want to sit in a highchair (nor do we want him to) but he associates a booster seat as basically the same thing. This mostly due to the fact that he is seat belted in his booster seat.

For months, my wife and I struggled with the fact that he wanted to sit in one of our dining room chairs just like his sister. And for months it meant that even though his sister was tall enough to sit with her butt on her chair, he went through meals on his knees.

Thankfully, a brilliant entrepreneur named Amir Levin, decided to do something about it. Levin had the ability to access the situation completely differently. Instead of changing the booster, modify the chair it used to be strapped into. The result is the Kaboost , a plastic booster that you strap the dining room chair into rather than the other way around.

Dubbed, “the only portable solution that allows kids to sit like big kids”, the Kaboost is everything it claims to be. This isn’t like putting the chair on top of telephone books. Its spring-loaded arms extend out to fit most every type of 4-legged chair very tightly. The non-slip grippers keep the chair in place and don’t scratch the floor. And even though your kid probably won’t use it past 4 or 5 years old, the Kaboost is engineered to hold up to 300 pounds.

kaboost_snap_on_sI received my Kaboost for review 2 weeks ago. It came pre-assembled in a very cool uniquely shaped box. I was able to install it to my son’s favorite chair in less than 5 minutes. I was shocked by how secure it holds the chair into place. My son was able to climb up by himself by stepping on one of the footholds and propelling from there. He now enjoys being able to actually sit at the table and being as high as his sister.

I love this project and wish to recommend it to everyone I know, including all of our faithful Noodad.com readers. There are only 2 words of warning I would give when using the Kaboost:

1. As mentioned before, the grippers on the bottom of the Kaboost are extremely slip-proof. This is good most of the time. My son has the habit of kicking back from the table when he is finished. Because of the tight grip to the floor and despite the wider base created by the Kaboost, kicking back could cause the chair to flip backwards. And because the chair is now raised up to another 4 1/2″ that is a longer way to fall.
2. The second issue is to just be aware that because of the added height, your chair may not be able to slide back under the table. If you are dealing with tight quarters, this may cause an issue. A solution, however is to take the Kaboost on and off the chair every meal. And it really is quick and easy to do.

The Kaboost, available in 3 colors (Natural, Chocolate, and Green) is a sturdy, compact, and lightweight product that will be sure to solve all your booster seat dilemmas. It retails for $39.95 and can be purchase online at www.Kaboost.com

4 out 5 Noos.
