Kids and Antibiotics

Unless your kid lives in a bubble, they will get sick. And if they do there will be a time when over the counter medicine just won"t do. Here are a few things I learned from my experiences.
-Always give the full dose (usually 10 days) of the medicine even if your kid is feeling better. Remember, even if you cut your doses short, your kid doesn"t talk (unless he"s that creepy baby, Bob, from Quiznos) and they will not be able to tell you that despite losing the stuffy nose, their ear still hurts. Plus, you already paid for the darn thing and they don"t keep long so use it all up. Special note: your kid will make a tremendous improvement after 24 hours of dosage. Stay the course. Finish the bottle.
-Just because it is the first time your kid has received antibiotics, it does not mean it will work. My daughter took amoxycillin with great results but it didn"t do squat for my son. he needed to switch to Augmentin. So if your kid doesn"t feel better after 24 hours maybe its the medicine.
-Your kid"s pee will reek. It will be worse than your pee after eating asparagus. This is very convenient if your kid is a phantom pee-er (you can"t tell its wet until it leaks through every layer of clothing). Just prepare yourself to smell some really strange pee for the 7-10 days.
-Sometimes antibiotics cause your kid to have mad poodad. I mean explosive. My son was on Augmentin and during his 7 days, he pooped through his diaper, onesie, and pants at least 6 times a day. There is no way around this. Just look and change often.

Good luck. And wash your hands obsessively.
