The speakers are boosted by 4 AA batteries. Pretty decent audio as well! But the coolest thing is that you know how places will monogram things for you with 3 letters? Instead of my three initials, my 5-year old thought it was obvious that the monogramming on the cooler should be "D-A-D" Cold beverages, tunes and D-A-D....I'm set for a few years with that one!
