We tried using the nipples from Avent on Born Free and it may seem to work, but will leak horribly. We eventually had to break down & buy all new nipples as well (Born Free comes only with newborn nipples). I will say that it was tricky to get the right speed flow and since they were sold out of a lot, we made a few mistakes. The variable flow are very fast even on the lowest flow. The 3 was also quite fast even though it's supposedly 3 months on... Good Luck. We switched in November 07.

[...] In a post last month, I discussed our switch from Avent bottles and sippy cups to BPA-free versions by Born Free. The whole transition was a big expense but for reasons addressed in that post, one we felt was the right thing to do. It turns out that there’s a way to save some coin if you’re buying Born Free out of the gate OR if your transitioning like we did - use Avent nipples. Avent nipples fit the Born Free bottle tops that are universal to the bottles and sippy cup rigs.
I think that if you are buying stuff for the first time it is wise to go BPA free. But for those who have had the stuff for a while, I may wait until a real governing body weighs in.

After all, i have followed the bandwagon of whether butter is good or bad for you and have spun myself around so many times that I don\'t even remember what the answer is.

Its always good to be cautious. But there is only so much worrying you can do these days.

We switched to BPA free sippys (Kleen Kanteen) a few weeks ago and are replacing all our Tupperware with glass. If/when baby #2 comes along, we will definitely replace all our bottles too.

Plastic that comes in contact with food/drink is going to be verboten in our house soon. Especially if I can find good alternatives to Ziplock bags and plastic wrap.

We also have tried to rid our house of BPA and PVC which is a carcinogen in plastic toys. The state of CA has recently passed a bill to ban all pthalate toys from our shelves and they are also attacking the BPA bottles. We too, have started using Klean Kanteens which I can\'t say enough about. We love them! We just want to err on the side of caution as well, especially as cancer, ADD, early-onset puberty, autism and various other serious issues continue to rise at alarming rates. Thanks for posting this.
