Coming Soon - Here Come the 123s

Any of you who resisted the garbage on commercial radio during your formative and college years probably grew up listening to the thoughtful and wacky tracks from John Flansburgh and John Linnel, better known as They Might Be Giants. Noodad and I both agree that their best collective effort is Flood which contained favorites such as “Birdhouse in Your Soul”, “Particle Man” and their classic cover of “Istanbul (Not Constantinople)”.
Over the years they have established themselves as a favorite of foodad, not only because of their near constant output, but because of their ability to reinvent themselves in ways that I can always relate. Not that this is a measure of artistic success, but I was surpised to find out that have only 2 gold records. Flood is one. The other is their first kid’s CD. Here Come the ABCs.
This collection came out in 2005 and is still in the heavy rotation in our car CD player along with Justin Robert’s Yellow Bus CD. The disc has the awesome, eclectic, no-two-sounds-a-like music that we have come to expect from They Might Be Giants, minus killing off the countless screaming argonauts (Birdhouse), and the watchful eye on the death of mom (I Palindrome I). These topics are really hard for me to explain to my kids who love TMBG, but are still pretty little. They do however love the audio images of pictures of pandas painting penguins and conifers!
When Noodad told me that They Might Be Giants Here Come the 123s was out, I immediately had to have it. I knew it would be an instant classic in my kids library. Unfortunately, it is not out until February, but they have released a preview video of the first single, “High Five” via their new family oriented podcast. Check out these previews!

If this is even half as good as Here COme the ABCs, it will be worth buying.
My kids first heard about TMBG when they saw Higglytown heroes for the first time. (TMBG does the theme song and it appears on ABCs)
They pwn. And your kids will love them too.
